I think the JW's (Jehovah's Witnesses) were out in full force last weekend. They must have canvassed the whole region, as evidenced by what one of my Grovetown students said to me.
Saturday morning two young women in sun-dresses stopped by my home. I was doing laundry and wearing my I-am-a-housewife uniform (a.k.a. grungy tee and flip flops) and taking out the recycling when they walked down my driveway.
I'm don't know if the older couple who visited me this summer was reassigned, or if they got discouraged, or if the JW's thought these two girls would have better luck identifying with me. But I hadn't seen them in a while, and I was suprised to see these two girls.
I love discussing religion with the JW visitors, I just have trouble accepting that JW's are the only true form of Christianity. They have every right to believe in religious exclusivity.
I just don't. Of course, it follows then, that if no religion is exclusive then they are each a right path to finding God. But, that's a discussion for another blog.
Anyway, when I went to school on Monday morning, one of my Grovetown students said out of the blue, "Ms. Cleary, why do the Jehoavah's Witnesses always come to your house?"
Thinking the student meant me, I said, "How did you know they came to my house this weekend?"
"I didn't know they came to your house. I asked because they came to mine," he said. "Why do they do that?"
Last week I taught my World History classes the vocabulary word "proselytyze."
"Look at your vocabulary list and you'll figure it out," I said.
He got the picture.
