Weekend Events

Put some Good Notes in this Weekend’s Schedule

By Laura Perry

Get a dose of real live bluegrass with the Steep Canyon Rangers at the Imperial, or tone up your Harley with the Riverhawks, tonight. On Saturday, listen to some Jazz tones over at the Maxwell Theatre or go find a good book about jazz at the Friends of the Library Book Sale. You can march to your own beat at the Morris’s Adult Artist Workshop with Jay Jacobs on Saturday. That’s something to sing about, and on Sunday, finish it up on a high note with the Concerts with a Cause Series.

Friday, November 16th
Southern Soul & Song Concert Series= Steep Canyon Rangers
7:30 p.m.
Imperial Theatre
Imperial Theatre Executive Director Charles Scavullo knew he had to bring Asheville’s Steep Canyon Rangers back to give Augusta another taste of “true bluegrass,” as Examiner.com calls it. Tickets are $13-$37. Call 706-722-8341 or visit www.theimperialtheatre.com.

Augusta RiverHawks vs. Pensacola Ice Flyers (Hockey & Harley Night)
7:35 p.m.
James Brown Arena
After last night’s loss (1-3), our RiverHawks hope to give the Ice Flyers their own loss to take home, but they need help from their fans! RiverHawks even have the gang from Augusta Harley Davidson coming to show off some of their new bikes … pretty TOUGH! Order your tickets over the phone by calling 706-993-2645, or pick them up in person at the offices on 712 Telfair Street (basement of Bell Auditorium). RiverHawks won’t have another home game until after Thanksgiving, so get it done with them tonight!

Saturday, November 17th
Friends of the Augusta Library Book Sale
10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Appleby Branch Library
This monthly book sale is a good cause that you can get something out of, too. The sale will consist of mainly books, but some DVDs and CDs will also be available. This sale is always on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

Artist Workshop for Adults: Jay’s Flying Fish Cutouts
1-5 p.m.
Morris Museum of Art
Jay Jacobs’ artwork is full of color and free doodles. This artist workshop also has no rules and invites participants to decorate a wooden structure inspired by Jacobs’ own artwork. It is $20 for members and $30 for non-members. Pre-registration is required. Call 706-724-7501 or visit www.themorris.org.
