NFL free agent Deon Grant has accomplished a lot since graduating from T.W. Josey in 1997. Not only did he just win a Super Bowl ring as part of the champion New York Giants this year, he’s excelled at both sports and academics almost as long as he’s been in school. His senior year at Josey, he not only had 99 tackles, caught 28 passes for 622 yards and made eight touchdowns, but he was a member of the Academic Decathlon Team and the National Honor Society. At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, he was well on his way to an electrical engineering degree before being drafted into the NFL during his junior year. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot about Grant to make fun of, but the Augusta Mini Theatre is going to do its best on Thursday, July 19 during the Third Annual Summer Roast & Toast. Don’t worry, though; Grant will be a good sport since proceeds from the event go to the Mariah McKie Butler Memorial College Book Scholarship.   Third Annual Summer Roast & Toast Judith Simon Drama Studio on the Augusta Mini Theatre campus Thursday, July 19 7 p.m. $50, individuals; $500, tables 706-722-0598 augustaminitheatre.com
