The One That Got Away

Columbia County’s first ever rock show — Chevelle at the Lady A — was canceled last week because of… you guessed it: a scheduling conflict. In regular English, that means slow ticket sales allowed someone else to swoop in and steal the show, hook, line and Seether. Which sucks for a multitude of reasons. For one thing, after putting on just about every legitimate rock concert in the area for years, local promoter Steve Hall’s first big venue rock concert undoubtedly leaves him with some serious promoter debt. For another, this was a big chance for Columbia County to start building a reputation as a legitimate destination for rock bands and concerts in general. Lose too many shows to scheduling conflicts, and you get the wrong kind of reputation, making it harder to get considered in the first place — remember the entertainment landscape in Augusta pre-Global Spectrum? Sure, it’s still early in the game, but you can bet there’s definite pressure every time the House that Ron Built gets passed over.
